Fake GTA 6 pre-order and "early access" sites are already live. If a site sells GTA 6 for under $50, promises beta or early access, asks for payment in cryptocurrency, or has no valid HTTPS padlock, it is a scam. Rockstar's only real pre-orders open June 25, 2026 through official storefronts and select retailers — nothing before that is genuine.

Security researchers at NordVPN and Malwarebytes have tracked a wave of these scams in the weeks leading up to launch. They are convincing now — slick AI-generated Vice City artwork, real-looking logos, urgent countdowns. Here is how to spot them.

6 Signs a GTA 6 Pre-Order Site Is Fake

  1. It promises early access, beta access, or a playable copy before November 19. There is no GTA 6 public beta. Rockstar is selling pre-orders, not early access. Any "VIP early access" or "exclusive download" pitch is fake.
  2. It asks for cryptocurrency. One documented scam charged $250 and accepted only Bitcoin, USDT or Ethereum. Crypto payments can't be reversed — there is no chargeback. If a "store" wants crypto, walk away.
  3. The price is too good. "$30 GTA 6 keys," under-$50 pre-orders, or deep "launch discounts" are bait. The standard game is expected to cost $70–$80.
  4. The URL is wrong or the login looks off. Scammers run phishing pages that copy the Rockstar Social Club login to steal your account, sometimes hosted on trusted-looking platforms like GitHub or Vercel. The official login is only on rockstargames.com. Check the address bar and the HTTPS padlock every time.
  5. It pressures you with urgency and "instant sellout" claims. Fake countdowns, "only 3 left," and glossy AI Vice City art are designed to make you act before you think.
  6. It's a third-party or unknown site asking for a deposit to "reserve." Legitimate pre-orders never route through an obscure site asking you to pay a deposit to hold a copy.

There are also fake "GTA 6 Beta" Android apps loaded with adware and malware, and cloned piracy sites (fake FitGirl, DODI or ElAmigos pages) hiding trojans. There is no PC or mobile version, so any download installer is a trap.

Official Retailers Only

The only safe move is to buy from official channels when they go live on June 25: the PlayStation Store, the Xbox/Microsoft Store, Rockstar's own site, and authorized retailers like Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop. One fact protects you from nearly all of these: GTA 6 cannot be bought, downloaded or played early through any unofficial site. If a page claims otherwise, it is trying to take your money.

What to Do If You Already Got Scammed

  • Contact your bank or card issuer immediately and ask to dispute the charge or freeze the card. (If you paid in crypto, the money is likely gone, but still report it.)
  • Change your Rockstar Social Club password and any reused passwords, then turn on two-factor authentication.
  • Run a malware scan if you downloaded any file or app, and uninstall suspicious apps.
  • Report the scam to the platform where you found it, and to your country's fraud body (the FTC in the US, Action Fraud in the UK, or your local cybercrime cell in India).
  • Stop further contact with the seller and don't pay "release fees" to recover the first payment — that's a second scam.
